Scuderia Ferrari German driver Sebastian Vettel is sure that the Maranello team had the potential to win all five rounds of the 2017 Formula One season, yet nonetheless adds that “we got the points we deserved so far”.
Sebastian managed to finish either first or second at every Grand Prix in 2017 so far, winning in Australia and Bahrain, and finishing runner-up to a Mercedes in China, Russia and Spain. As a result, Vettel has a six-point advantage over Mercedes rival Lewis Hamilton ahead of the 2017 Monaco Grand Prix, while Scuderia Ferrari is for the moment eight points down on Mercedes in the Constructors’ battle: “I think the most important thing is that we were there in all the five races. I think we could have won all five if things turned out differently, but they didn’t. Sometimes we were on the luckier side, and sometimes we were not, but we have a long season ahead of us, so I think stuff like that will equal out. As I said, the most important is that we were there.”
“We had scruffy Fridays, rough Saturdays, but we were always there in the race, which proves that we have a strong package, a strong car, and we’re doing the right things. I think we got the points we deserved so far, here and there other people just did a better job overall, but I think we have plenty to look forward to as well.” – the German driver added.
Vettel made clear that the Italian team must now build on its strong start: “For us, we are very happy that we had a great start to the season, now we need to make sure that we stay there. We’re not happy being behind or just being level, which is a lot better than where we were in previous years, but we want to be ahead, and there’s a lot of work to do.” On his and Scuderia Ferrari’s chances in Monte Carlo this Sunday, Seb explains: “We don’t have anything to be afraid of, but for the last couple of years Mercedes was very strong here, so they will be the ones to beat. But I’m confident that we can have a good weekend.”
