Scuderia Ferrari completed a successful day of testing on the Mugello track in preparation for the 2020 Formula One season at the Red Bull Ring on the first weekend of July.
The Scuderia brought an SF71H to the Tuscan track that Sebastian Vettel (in the morning) and Charles Leclerc (afternoon) shared, to regain confidence with a Formula 1 car.
Although with a two-year-old car, both Ferrari drivers were able to work hard, not being subjected to the mileage limit of 100 km allowed on filming days.
Both Seb and Charles have shown that they have maintained a good psycho-physical shape despite not driving since winter testing. In particular Seb liked that he was the first to drive the car, as like the team had recognized the merit of his experience.
Three months have passed since then and the COVID-19 pandemic has heavily influenced the activity of Formula 1 which has stood still for a long shutdown decided by the FIA, who put all the teams on the same level.
One person who did not want to miss this test was team principal Mattia Binotto, who was able to see for himself what the state of mind of the two drivers is, in particular that of Sebastian Vettel who returned to driving a Ferrari for the first time after the “divorce” with the Prancing Horse was officially confirmed.
The Ferrari boss was also able to see the team of engineers and mechanics in action, since in Austria the staff of the two single seaters will not be able to help themselves if needed, because they will operate in two separate “bubbles” that must not have direct contacts.
The day was useful to collect data on the Mugello track which is owned by Ferrari, taking into account that as the days go by, the chances that the Tuscan track may become the venue of the second GP in Italy after Monza are growing and there is talk of the September 13th as possible date.
The indications filtered by Mugello talk about a a very motivated Sebastian Vettel for the start of the 2020 world championship and the atmosphere in the garage was relaxed.
