During the FIA General Assemblies, the Republic of Rwanda formally presented its bid, signaling further developments in shaping the future F1 calendar, with potential new additions and circuit rotations.
As part of the same event, Rwanda’s Minister of Sport, Richard Nyirihishema, and the FIA President signed the UAOA Charter, a document underscoring their commitment to combating online abuse in sports. This coalition brings together sports organizations, national governments, regulatory bodies, and tech platforms to address the growing issue of online harassment.
This initiative is expected to provide fresh momentum for the campaign, paving the way for a busy 2025 filled with publications, partnerships, events, and major announcements.
Also during the FIA General Assemblies, Rwanda’s Minister of Sport officially presented the nation’s bid to join the F1 calendar. The announcement was made by Rwanda’s President, Paul Kagame, who, in his address, affirmed the country’s ambitions to host a Grand Prix.
“I am delighted to formally announce that Rwanda has submitted its bid to bring the thrill of racing to Africa,” Kagame stated. “Hosting a Formula 1 Grand Prix is an extraordinary opportunity, and I extend my gratitude to Stefano Domenicali and the entire F1 team for the significant progress in our discussions. I assure you we are approaching this opportunity with the seriousness and dedication it demands.”
These remarks reaffirm Formula 1’s intent to expand into Africa, a goal passionately championed in recent years by Lewis Hamilton and supported by Stefano Domenicali.
