Who is Mick Schumacher? An RTL documentary pursues this question, which has closely followed the Ferrari Driver Academy talent
Mick: “I think that if you always work hard and have the talent, then you can achieve winning championships. If you only have talent but not work on yourself, then it won’t work. Talent alone is not enough to win.”
Mick 15 minutes before the start of Race 2: “I talked with the firefighter, because I felt uncomfortable with all the cameras and preferred to stay away. I just stood there and he asked if I want to sit. We talked and it was nice. I learned some new things.”
Mick: “It’s very nice to have the old companions, who successfully worked with my father in the past with me. Knowing that they keep an eye on me is calming in some ways. They can give me the best advices.”
Ross Brawn: “I have known Mick since he was a baby. I remember having chats with Corinna about what he should do. Perhaps a little background of teams she should work with, how she should support Mick. It is very emotional if Mick finds his way to F1.”
Ross Brawn: “He is a lovely man. Considering the weight that the name Schumacher brings, he is handling it very well I must say. That’s a tremendous responsibility to have that heritage. I think he is doing a wonderful job in representing the Schumacher family!”
Joey Mawson back in 2016 / teammate of Mick in F4: “Mick is a fantastic kid, very caring, very polite, very nice. He looked after me when I fractured my wrist earlier that year, he was helping me when I needed it.”
Mick: “I remember that I was always driving in the kart at Saint Paul de Vence, in the near of Monaco. I always looked where my father was. One of sentences was always: what is your favourite moment of the day? I said when I have an accident, that father always has to run fast.”
Mick: “It helped me a lot that my father was always there. The decision was made back in Kerpen, where my dad asked if we wanted to do it professionally or if we wanted to just do it as a hobby. My answer was clear: professionally. I was 11 / 12 years old back then.”
Mick: “My first time in a kart was when I was 3 years old. They cut the kart in the middle and then assembled it together so it fitted me. I was allowed to drive with it around the yard. Racing was always part of my life. I never imagined something else.”
Mick: “I was always fascinated and attracted to cars. I always liked the speed. My idol is my father, simply because he is the best.”
