Scuderia Ferrari Monegasque driver Charles Leclerc will remain on the sidelines during the first free practice session for the 2023 Formula 1 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, the final event of the 2023 Formula 1 season, which is scheduled to take place next weekend at the 5.281-kilometre Yas Marina Circuit on Yas Island.
Similar to what happened with Carlos Sainz at the Dutch Grand Prix, the Monegasque driver of Ferrari will hand over the wheel to Ferrari Driver Academy memver Robert Shwartzman during the 60 minutes of activity scheduled for Friday morning on Yas Island. The goal is not only to comply with the regulation imposed by the Federation regarding the use of young drivers but also to optimize data collection between on-track performance and simulation.
The Russo-Israeli racing driver who last competed in the 2023 GT World Challenge Europe Endurance Cup, driving for AF Corse, it is worth remembering, has already taken to the track earlier this season at Zandvoort, working closely with the technical Ferrari team. This is a significant opportunity that the Russian, with an Israeli passport, will try not to let slip away, especially in view of the post-season testing session scheduled in Abu Dhabi starting from Tuesday, following the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.
