In a matter of days, scenarios change, schedules change, but certain elements remain the same. From the dazzling lights of vibrant Las Vegas, we transition to the sunset of Abu Dhabi, illuminated by artificial lights that make the Marina Bay backdrop shine, marking the final act of the 2023 Formula 1 season.
After a journey of just over 13,000 kilometers, Formula 1 is set to conclude the season in what is a challenge for both teams and drivers, given the time zone difference experienced in less than two weeks, especially after an unpredictable weekend like the one in Las Vegas. The Yas Marina circuit will host the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix for the fifteenth time this weekend, and since its introduction, it has often been the season’s final stage.
Moreover, it has decided the title on four occasions, namely in 2010, 2014, 2016, and 2021. This year, the championships are already decided, with Max Verstappen and Red Bull dominating a championship that concluded several weeks ago. However, the season’s final event still holds numerous open battles, such as the one for the fourth position in the drivers’ standings and the seventh position in the constructors’.
“In 2021, the track was modified at some points, making it faster and smoother, also creating more opportunities for overtaking, as seen in the last two editions. Yas Marina ranks at the lower end of the severity scale concerning tires, despite significant vertical loads, especially on the front axle. For this event, we have confirmed the trio of the softest tire compounds possible, consisting of the C3 as Hard, the C4 as Medium, and the C5 as Soft. It is the same choice as last year and also for the Las Vegas race, confirming the versatility of the currently available compounds,” explained Mario Isola, Pirelli Motorsport Manager.
As in previous years, on the Yas Marina street circuit, Pirelli will bring the following tire compounds:
Pirelli PZero White Hard C3
Pirelli PZero Yellow Medium C4
Pirelli PZero Red Soft C5
This is the softest possible choice by the Italian tire supplier, the sole provider for Formula 1: the 2023 range by Pirelli goes from C0, the hardest compound to be eliminated for the next year, to C5, the softest.

Furthermore, in the week following the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, teams will have a test day to gather useful data for the next season. The car designated for tire work can use ten sets: one of C1, one of C2, two of C5, three of C4, and the same for C3. The car reserved for young drivers, those who have participated in a maximum of two Formula 1 Grands Prix, can be equipped with two sets of C3 and C5 each, along with four sets of C4.
