Red Bull is reportedly monitoring Oliver Bearman as a potential long-term option, with the Milton Keynes team assessing its alternatives amid continued uncertainty surrounding Max Verstappen’s future. One possible route could involve offering the Ferrari-backed British driver a seat at Racing Bulls before eventually promoting him to the senior team.
Oliver Bearman has become an increasingly interesting figure in the Formula 1 driver market following his performances for Haas. Reports linked to Sky Sports F1 describe the 21-year-old as a talent Red Bull is watching closely, particularly as the team considers how it would respond if Max Verstappen chose to leave.
Red Bull monitors Oliver Bearman amid Max Verstappen uncertainty
Red Bull is evaluating alternative options in case Max Verstappen decides that his future lies away from the Austrian team. The Dutch world champion remains under contract, but speculation about a possible move, particularly to McLaren, has encouraged Red Bull’s management to explore other high-quality candidates.
Oliver Bearman has consequently emerged as a credible name because of his performances with Haas and the potential he has yet to fully express. The British driver has already been identified as a possible part of Red Bull’s post-Max Verstappen planning, although no formal approach or offer has been confirmed.
A key factor behind Red Bull’s interest is team principal Laurent Mekies. During his previous spell at Ferrari, Laurent Mekies was among those involved in bringing Oliver Bearman into the Ferrari Driver Academy. That direct knowledge of the young driver’s character, ability and development could make it easier for Red Bull to assess his suitability for its long-term plans.
Red Bull is therefore believed to be keeping Oliver Bearman under close observation as the 2027 driver market continues to develop.
Racing Bulls could provide Oliver Bearman’s route to Red Bull
One possibility being suggested is that Oliver Bearman could be tempted by an opportunity with Racing Bulls. Such a move would offer a clear and structured route towards the senior Red Bull team while allowing the British driver to continue developing in an environment closely connected to the Milton Keynes operation.
Red Bull has a long-established system of promoting drivers from its junior team. A period with Racing Bulls could therefore become a practical first step for Oliver Bearman, particularly if he sees no immediate opportunity to progress elsewhere.
The scenario would give Red Bull time to evaluate Oliver Bearman inside its own structure before considering him for a leading role. For the driver, meanwhile, it could offer a more visible path towards a race-winning team than remaining in a holding pattern while waiting for a Ferrari vacancy.
Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc block an immediate Ferrari opening
Oliver Bearman remains a member of the Ferrari Driver Academy and has repeatedly stated that earning a race seat with the Scuderia is his ultimate ambition. However, there currently appears to be no available place at Maranello, with Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton closing the door to an opportunity in the short to medium term.
Lewis Hamilton’s improved form has made Oliver Bearman’s route particularly complicated, with the Haas driver acknowledging that the seven-time world champion’s continued presence is not ideal for his Ferrari ambitions. Charles Leclerc also remains central to the Italian team’s long-term plans.
The absence of an obvious opening makes a potential Red Bull or Racing Bulls opportunity increasingly interesting. What might initially have been viewed as a secondary plan could develop into a serious alternative if Ferrari cannot provide a clear timeline for Oliver Bearman’s promotion.
The situation is further complicated by uncertainty over who will ultimately control the driver’s next career move. Ferrari retains significant influence over Oliver Bearman’s future, while questions have emerged over whether he could eventually move beyond the Scuderia’s control in 2027.
Oliver Bearman responds to Red Bull rumours
Oliver Bearman has reacted positively but cautiously to the speculation connecting him with Red Bull.
“It’s quite flattering to hear things like that, with a team like Red Bull, who are incredibly successful. To be connected with them in any way, even if it’s just rumours, is very nice,” Oliver Bearman said.
“But, like I said, it’s just rumours and I’m fully focused on what I’m doing here with Haas at the moment.”
The British driver has also reiterated that Ferrari would remain his preferred destination. At the same time, Oliver Bearman has admitted that he is “in the dark” regarding his contract situation and does not want to spend the strongest years of his career waiting for a seat that may never become available.
That uncertainty leaves Ferrari facing an important decision. The Maranello team must balance the futures of Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc while also protecting the prospects of Oliver Bearman and the next generation of Ferrari Driver Academy talent.
Oliver Bearman faces two possible career paths
Red Bull’s reported interest underlines the team’s desire to prepare for the future while Max Verstappen’s plans remain uncertain. A move to Racing Bulls could represent the first concrete step towards a senior Red Bull seat, providing Oliver Bearman with an opportunity to accelerate his career inside a proven promotion system.
At the same time, Oliver Bearman’s connection to Ferrari and his repeated declarations of loyalty keep both possibilities open. One path would involve remaining committed to the Ferrari Driver Academy and waiting for an opportunity at Maranello. The other could offer a faster route towards the front of the grid through the Red Bull organisation.
For now, Oliver Bearman remains focused on Haas, while Ferrari and Red Bull continue to assess how the Formula 1 driver market could evolve.
