In the last few days, during the Formula 1 Miami Grand Prix, a topic has been addressed that maybe not everyone is properly aware of. During the tests conducted two weeks ago on the Imola circuit by Pirelli to evaluate the behavior of the 2023 tires with the support of some teams, including Scuderia Ferrari, some photos had leaked which suggested that the Maranello team would have used these tests to make comparisons between two different types of floor specifications for the F1-75 car.
Something absolutely forbidden by regulation. In fact, in the days following this test, some teams asked the FIA for explanations, clarifications that quickly came from Ferrari during the weekend in Florida, as the FIA confirmed everything was ok and Ferrari had therefore been cleared of any wrongdoing.
Christian Horner asks the FIA for careful checks, especially at this stage
The teams were appropriately informed of the whole situation, with Red Bull boss Christian Horner commenting on this situation: “It is the Federation’s responsibility to check. What I understood is that, during the tests carried out with Pirelli, the car must always run with the same specifications and if it is deemed necessary to replace a part, it must be done with the same type used previously.”
“I believe that what emerged on the floor of the Ferrari car was due to the fact that the specification adopted in the morning was different from that in the afternoon. What we want to avoid is that these tire tests also become opportunities for assessing the aerodynamic parts of cars. That is not the purpose of those tests” – commented the Red Bull team principal, Ferrari’s main rival in the title race.
