The sport’s governing body have cleared Scuderia Ferrari of any illegal or dishonest behaviour after the Italian side was seen using two different floor specifications during last week’s Pirelli testing session, which took place at the Imola circuit, a few days after the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix.
Monegasque driver Charles Leclerc used one floor specification on his F1-75 car in the first part of the day, while his Maranello teammate Carlos Sainz continued the testing programme in the afternoon, but images showed the Ferrari F1-75 car was running with a different floor version.
As a result, several teams asked for clarifications on the topic ahead of the next round of the 2022 Formula One season, the Miami Grand Prix, which takes place this weekend at the Miami International Autodrome. The current Formula 1 sporting regulations state that new car elements are not allowed to be used during tyre testing, and any new components have to be run on track at some point during a previous Grand Prix weekend.
Scuderia Ferrari informed the FIA that the floor Carlos Sainz used at the second half of the day at the Imola circuit test had been trialled by Charles Leclerc during first free practice session at the Albert Park circuit in Melbourne, therefore confirming no regulations were contravened by also using it in the Pirelli tyre test.

For now, neither Ferrari nor the FIA have provided any official statements regarding this situation, but rumors inside the paddock confirm that Formula 1-s governing body has accepted the explanation they have received from the Maranello team and the evidence that Ferrari have shown. Alongside the new floor version, Ferrari’s updates for the Miami Grand Prix weekend include a new rear wing, but the Italian side will introduce its first major upgrade package at the next round of the 2022 F1 championship, which takes place at the Circuit de Catalunya in Barcelona.
