The start of the 2024 Formula 1 season is getting closer every day. Anticipation is growing, and there is curiosity about the new cars that we will see on the track in a month during the official pre-season testing session, which is scheduled to take place at the Sakhir circuit in Bahrain. Red Bull will undoubtedly once again be the team to beat, and there could be multiple contenders. Ralf Schumacher, former Formula 1 driver and current commentator at Sky, was interviewed by his former team principal Eddie Jordan on his podcast Formula For Success. The brother of the legend Michael mentioned Lando Norris, McLaren, and Mercedes as the closest rivals to the Milton Keynes team, currently excluding Scuderia Ferrari from the title race, with a rather controversial view on the abilities of Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz.
Ralf Schumacher is now known in the paddock for his controversial opinions and outspoken judgments. Recently, he didn’t hold back, taking a subtle jab at Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc in the latest episode of Formula For Success, with Eddie Jordan and David Coulthard. Commenting on who could be Max Verstappen’s rivals for the 2024 Formula 1 championship, the German stated that he doesn’t see Ferrari as a favorite in the title fight due to its driver lineup.
“It may be possible that Ferrari will challenge Max, but you never know what will happen between the drivers. They can be leading the race, but then they spin or make stupid mistakes: I’m not saying they collide with each other, but they make maneuvers that leave me puzzled. Fred Vasseur, however, is doing an excellent job, and the team is growing: you can see that the group is more cohesive, there are fewer mistakes in the pit stops. So, at the moment, I don’t see them as the top contenders, but I’ll judge after the first two races,” said the former driver on the podcast.
