The period following the start of the new year, between January and February, is crucial for all Formula One teams in preparation for the upcoming season. It’s a time when teams’ factories are bustling with preparations for the new championship and the imminent winter tests. Components are sent into production, new cars are assembled (including the fire-up once the power unit is installed on the chassis), and details regarding the preparation event are finalized.
This timeframe is not only important for the teams but also for the drivers. After a few months of vacation and a break following the last race of the 2023 Formula 1 season (while maintaining athletic preparation), they return to their normal routines and start mentally immersing themselves in the upcoming season. Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz, the two drivers of Scuderia Ferrari, have not escaped this transition and have been spotted in Maranello, back to work after the holidays.
Their presence within the Ferrari Racing Division is crucial as they prepare for the 2024 Formula One season. In these days in Italy, they have started getting to know and familiarizing themselves, both physically and virtually (through simulator driving sessions), with the single-seater they will race in the upcoming championship. Moreover, Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc will undergo the seat and cockpit configuration test, participate in meetings with engineers ahead of the first winter tests, and finally, conduct photo shoots, including those for sponsors, in preparation for the official presentation.
In essence, it’s another step in the approach to the unveiling date on February 13. Unlike the previous Formula One season, Ferrari is adopting a low-profile approach, characterized by few comments and a focus on hard work. It’s a different path, diametrically opposed to what was seen in 2023, driven by the hope of achieving significantly better results than a year ago, truly worthy of the Scuderia.
