According to former Formula 1 driver Ralf Schumacher, Aston Martin would be a strong contender to hire Charles Leclerc from Scuderia Ferrari in the near future, given the lack of available seats at Red Bull and Mercedes. With Lewis Hamilton’s contract renewal already in place and the unlikely scenario of Charles Leclerc joining Max Verstappen at Red Bull, the Silverstone-based team could represent the only viable option among the top teams as an alternative to the Prancing Horse.
Ralf Schumacher suggests Charles Leclerc for Aston Martin in case of departure from Ferrari
“So far, there have only been Mercedes and Red Bull as potential options,” said the former German driver to Sky Germany. “Mercedes is not a current option at the moment, and it’s reasonable to think that Lewis Hamilton will continue there. But I believe Aston Martin is also a strong candidate that needs to look around. Therefore, it would be a logical possibility for Charles Leclerc, considering the potential partnership with Honda as well.”
In recent weeks, there have been several rumors about the possibility of Charles Leclerc leaving Ferrari to join Mercedes, taking the place of the seven-time world champion. However, both the British driver and Toto Wolff have reiterated their desire to continue together, with the official confirmation of the contract renewal being only a matter of time.
Imagining Charles Leclerc at Red Bull is also quite an unlikely scenario. The Milton Keynes-based team has secured Max Verstappen as the undisputed lead driver until 2028, and pairing him with another top-tier driver like Charles Leclerc would only risk disrupting the internal balance of an already well-established team.

At this point, the only valid option would be Aston Martin. The Silverstone-based team has been the big surprise of the 2023 Formula 1 season, making an impressive leap forward in performance. In just a few months, the British outfit has gone from being the seventh force to the second force, with the ambition of challenging Red Bull in the near future.
However, Fernando Alonso himself recently stated that he is tempted by the idea of continuing beyond 2024, extending his contract further. The focus would then shift to Lance Stroll, who is experiencing a paradoxical situation this year.
The Canadian driver is, in fact, the son of Aston Martin’s chairman, Lawrence Stroll. However, disappointing on-track results make it difficult to imagine his confirmation in the near future. Lawrence will have to decide whether to prioritize the company’s interests by distancing his son or to continue with Lance, maintaining his trust in him. In any case, Charles Leclerc remains on the radar, ready to seize any tempting opportunities in the market.
