Thank you, Rafa
At 38 years old, Rafael Nadal has decided to call it quits and hang up his racket. The Spanish legend, who started his professional tennis career at a very young age, concludes a legendary career crowned with 22 Grand Slam victories, 36 Masters 1000 titles, 92 ATP titles, and over 1,000 professional wins, retiring as the fifth most successful tennis player of all time.
The story of the native of Manacor goes beyond the tennis courts, as only great champions are capable of doing. And so, after Roger Federer’s farewell to tennis, announced in grand style just over a year ago, the world of sports wanted to pay tribute to King Rafa.
“Thank you for everything, Rafa. All the best for the future,” writes Fernando Alonso on his Instagram profile, one of the first Spanish drivers to thank his compatriot for the great career he had.
“I have nothing but admiration for you and your work over all these years,” says Carlos Sainz on X, joining the tribute of the two-time world champion.
“Thank you for every point you fought for and for the unforgettable moments you made us live both on and off the court. You are a source of pride for our country and an eternal role model as an athlete and as a person. Now enjoy this new year and continue expanding your legacy.”
Esteban Ocon also dedicated a few lines to pay tribute to Nadal’s career: “An incredible career and a true inspiration for me and for all athletes of this generation. Thank you for everything, Rafa.”
Not only Formula 1 drivers joined in the thanks, but also MotoGP riders, with Marc Marquez praising the Spaniard “for being a point of reference for everyone.”
Finally, his brother Alex wrote: “A reference, an idol, and all possible adjectives are for you! I still remember, when I was a child, how that boy from Manacor fought for his dreams and gave us all that grit. #VamosRafa will always be eternal! Thank you from the bottom of my heart.”
