It seems that South Africa will have to wait a little big longer to return on the Formula 1 calendar. There are no official communications from Liberty Media, but the negotiations between the sport and the Kyalami circuit have suffered an unexpected setback and the event will most likely not feature on next year’s calendar.
In the first draft of the calendar that Formula 1 has drawn up and the teams have received, Kyalami is not there. As expected, the races should reach a record number of 24 in 2023 (the maximum allowed by the Concorde Agreement), while the presence of Monte Carlo and the removal of Paul Ricard are confirmed. The draft, published by F1-Insider, has yet to be approved by the FIA World Council: therefore, it is not official and can be changed, but it certainly testifies to the sport’s desire to combine tradition and revenues. For now, the start is scheduled for March 5th in Bahrain, while the European season should begin on May 21st with the Imola race and finish on September 3rd with the Italian Grand Prix at Monza.
The final part of the 2023 Formula 1 season is dedicated to the American events (Mexico, Brazil, Las Vegas) before the grand finale in Abu Dhabi, which will most likely take place on November 26th.
