The Formula 1 circus travels to a circuit it’s never been to before. Joining Mugello in making its F1 debut in 2020 is Portimao in Portugal, a circuit you many well remember from last year’s spectacular TG24. The 2.9-mile track in southern Portugal opened in 2008. It has hosted F1 tests, but never a full-on race.
Portimao has hosted notable events like the Superleague Formula, GP2 Series, Superbike World Championship and Le Mans. And come October 25, it will have hosted the prestigious form of motorsports racing. No wonder, the circuit built for modern competitive racing, has a Grade 1 accreditation by FIA.
Portimao may be a milestone in architectural engineering considering how the entire circuit upgrade took about 7 months. However, the numbers accounted for €190 million.
After an eventful race at Mugello, the fans will definitely look to Portimao to kick things up a notch. To be perfectly candid, the drivers enjoyed the mystery that otherwise untraversed tracks brought to their Formula One campaign.
Join us for the latest updates and results from the Portimao Circuit, as the first practice session for the 2020 Portuguese Grand Prix is about to get underway, with Sebastian Vettel and Charles Leclerc at the wheel of the SF1000, ready to evaluate the ideal set-up ahead of the qualifying session and the race on Sunday.
