Formula 1 official tyre supplier Pirelli has officially confirmed the tyres which it intends to bring to the first three races of the 2022 Formula 1 championship, including a skip of the C4 compound for the Australian Grand Prix.
Melbourne will host the third round of the 2022 campaign in April, as Australia returns on the Formula 1 calendar after two years. In 2020 the events was suddenly cancelled amid the outbreak of Covid-19, while fans were still waiting in front on the track entrance.
The C5 tyre, the softest in Pirelli’s range of dry compounds, will be available to teams during the race weekend. At the same time, the other two dry compounds available will be the C2 and C3, with the official tyre supplier decided not to bring the C4 tyre.

The last time Pirelli did not nominate a selection which ran equally through its range was back in 2018. Ahead of the Australian Grand Prix return, important track changes have been finalized at the Albert Park Circuit, with big modifications made at several corners, which should imprive racing while also having a different impact on the tyres.
For the opening race of the 2022 Formula 1 season, which takes place one week after the testing session in Bahrain, teams will run the hardest tyres from Pirelli, with the C1, C2 and C3 constructions in use. One week later in Saudi Arabia, which this year hosts the second event of the championship after its debut towards the end of the 2021 season, the Italian tyre manufacturier will bring the C2, C3 and C4 tyres.
This year, Formula 1 is using 18-inch wheels, which have been introduced to the sport as part of a big range of technical regulations aimed at making overtaking easier and therefore improving the track action.
