Pirelli has been officially confirmed as the exclusive and sole tire supplier in Formula 1 for the 2025-2027 period after winning the latest tender, beating out competition, including Bridgestone. Behind this new agreement, which will also cover Formula 2 and Formula 3, is Pirelli’s sustainability plan.
After an extensive review that took several months, Formula 1 has finally announced the winner of the tire tender for the seasons from 2025 to 2027. Following an exclusive partnership since 2011, the championship organizers confirmed that Pirelli will once again be the supplier for the next four years, defeating its rivals.
The new contract also covers the supply of tires for the Formula 2 and Formula 3 categories and extends until 2027, although it includes an option for the FIA and Formula 1 for a fourth season in 2028.
The tender began last March, with participants providing detailed technical dossiers to the FIA outlining their plans, including efforts to enhance the sustainability of their products. Both Pirelli and Bridgestone passed the initial approval stage by the Federation, and they subsequently negotiated their offers directly with Formula 1. In the end, Liberty Media chose to focus on continuity, selecting the Milan-based manufacturer for the 2025-27 period.
This time, the process was made more complex not only by grouping F2 and F3 into a single package but also by the sustainability objectives included in the tender. These objectives are expected to support Formula 1’s goal to achieve carbon neutrality by 2030. Consequently, starting in 2024, all Pirelli tires will be certified by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC).
The Italian company emphasized that FSC certification “ensures full traceability of forest materials throughout the supply chain and confirms that the plantations of tire components are managed to preserve biological diversity and provide benefits to local communities and workers, while promoting economic sustainability.”
If Pirelli secures the option for the 2028 Formula 1 season, a decision to be made later, the Milan-based manufacturer will have completed a total of 18 championships as the exclusive and sole supplier in the top open-wheel category.

“Since returning to this sport in 2011, Pirelli has been a valuable partner, supporting Formula 1 through all the technological changes and different technical regulations introduced, providing tires that allow us to put on a fantastic show for our fans,” explained Stefano Domenicali, CEO of Formula 1.
“The company’s commitment to quality and innovation, as well as its in-depth knowledge of our sport, will be crucial for the coming years, with the arrival of the new regulations in 2026. Pirelli’s work on sustainability, demonstrated by FSC certification, will also ensure the continued joint effort towards the shared Net Zero 2030 goal.”

Mohammed Ben Sulayem, President of the FIA, also emphasized the role of sustainability in the decision: “Pirelli has been operating at the highest levels of motorsport for many years, and I am sure it will continue to provide innovation and excellence on the world stage. Formula 1 presents a unique challenge for tire suppliers, and Pirelli has shown great dedication in producing tires that meet the extreme needs of these incredible cars.”
“I would like to thank Pirelli for its ongoing support of motorsport, not only in Formula 1 but also in many other championships and categories at all levels. In the coming years, we will continue to work to make further progress in terms of performance and sustainability, and Pirelli is strongly committed to achieving both goals,” added the President of the FIA.
Pirelli’s Executive Vice Chairman, Marco Tronchetti Provera, clarified that the company continues to derive good returns from its ongoing involvement in this sport: “We are very pleased to be able to extend our presence in Formula 1 and other related championships. Pirelli was present when the premier motor racing competition started in 1950 and, with this renewal, will play a leading role in almost two decades of modern Formula 1, which is experiencing an extraordinary period of growth in terms of audience and worldwide expansion, thanks to the impetus of Liberty Media and the support of the FIA, involving younger generations more and more.”
“Innovation and technology are in Pirelli’s DNA. Formula 1 represents an extraordinary open-air laboratory for experimenting and testing new technical solutions and for improving research and development processes in tire production. I also want to thank all the people at Pirelli for their passionate commitment and the quality of work done over the years and for what we will do together to continue this partnership for a long time. Our commitment is also maximum in terms of sustainability, as demonstrated by the FSC certification introduced for our F1 tires from next year. Being able to continue to be present in this competition, at least until 2027, represents a significant added value for Pirelli.”
