Formula One official tyre supplier Pirelli has recently announced its F1 tyre picks for the Italian Grand Prix, which is scheduled to take place at Monza, on the 3rd of September, mirroring its selection from the 2016 season.
As is standard for all Formula 1 races, Pirelli will take three compounds to the Autodromo Nazionale Monza, favoring a mid-range selection of super-softs, softs and mediums for all drivers to use. The Italian company took the same compounds to its home race in 2016, which was completed on a mix of one- and two-stop strategies by teams. This combination has proved the Italian company’s most popular selection during the current season, with the same three tyres being made available in China, Bahrain, Azerbaijan, Great Britain, Hungary, Malaysia and Japan.
Given the more conservative nature of Pirelli’s 2017 compounds, it is likely that most drivers will be able to complete the entire race on one stop in September despite the high-speed nature of the Monza circuit. Drivers will be required to complete the final stage of qualifying on the super-soft compound, as well as save at least one set of either mediums or softs to use during the Grand Prix on Sunday. Formula One Teams are free to choose the remaining ten sets of tyres in order to complete their 13-set allocation.
The race continues to be hosted in the royal park of Monza which is located on the outskirts of Milan, approximately 30 minutes from Europe’s fashion capital, as the Italian Grand Prix has become a must-visit if you are a true racing enthusiast.
