Pierre Waché is said to have signed a contract renewal that will tie him to Red Bull until 2028: no future in Ferrari, therefore, for the technical director.
According to RacingNews365, Red Bull’s technical director Pierre Waché has reportedly signed a contract renewal with the Austrian team, putting an end to Ferrari’s hopes of seeing him in Maranello.
It seems that after Adrian Newey’s departure, Red Bull decided to secure the technical director in order to entrust him with the team after the chief engineer’s farewell. Waché had long been courted by Ferrari, and many rumors placed him close to the Italian team, especially after rumors of Adrian Newey’s possible move to Maranello.
According to RacingNews365, it appears that after signing a long-term contract in mid-2023, he soon put pen to paper again in February to sign an updated contract. The new contract signed by the engineer would tie him to the Austrian team until the end of 2028.
Following Newey’s exit, Waché could take on the responsibility for developing the 2026 car, which will be built according to a new set of technical regulations. In recent years, the Frenchman has increasingly been identified as the technical mind behind Red Bull Racing’s on-track success and now could assume an even more significant role.
An important period in his career is beginning for Waché as he takes on greater responsibility for the Red Bull F1 project. If the renewal is confirmed, therefore, Fred Vasseur and Ferrari’s hopes of bringing him to Italy will be definitively extinguished.
However, this could also mean that Ferrari is pulling out all the stops to bring Adrian Newey to the court of the most successful team in Formula 1 history. We will see.
