Ferrari brand ambassador Marc Gené, during the Paddock Live program aired on Sky Sport F1 Italia after the 2024 Formula One Miami Grand Prix won by Lando Norris, talked about the performance of the Maranello team and how it managed to remain competitive in these first six races, despite not having introduced any significant new developments for the SF-24 single-seater yet.
The race saw the two Ferrari cars of Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz finish in third and fourth positions, behind Lando Norris’s McLaren and Max Verstappen’s Red Bull, which this time didn’t create a gap between itself and the Reds with the same strategy. Updates on the SF-24 will arrive in two weeks, when the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix is scheduled to take place at the Imola circuit in Italy, but both Fred Vasseur and Marc Gené don’t expect gains of more than two tenths per lap; at the moment, choosing the right setup for the track is more important. Here are the most important comments and impressions of the Ferrari brand ambassador.
Marc Gené’s opinion
Speaking about Scuderia Ferrari and how the Italian side can improve the SF-24 car, Marc Gené stated: “In my opinion, there is a lot to gain by optimizing the car’s setup, not just by bringing developments. They will be important, I’m not saying they won’t, but certainly, up to now, the reason why Ferrari has truly kept pace with teams that have already introduced novelties is that the Prancing Horse has understood how to improve the setup.” – Marc Gene pointed out at the end of the Miami Grand Prix.
The Spaniard then concluded his intervention by talking about the next stage of the Formula 1 World Championship, which will take place in Italy at the Enzo and Dino Ferrari Circuit on the banks of the Santerno River. The Ferrari test driver said: “Imola will be important, and then it will be seen from circuit to circuit because in one you can be competitive, while in another you may not, and this will depend solely on the type of corners there are.” – Marc Gene concluded.
