The final practice session on Friday in Singapore did not deliver the numbers Ferrari fans were hoping for: Lewis Hamilton finished tenth in FP2, over seven tenths behind leader Oscar Piastri, while Charles Leclerc was just ahead in ninth. It was a complicated session, marked by two red flags and Hamilton’s inability to complete a representative lap in the final minutes on Soft tires.
Despite this, former driver and now pundit Anthony Davidson noticed an important detail: Hamilton’s positive attitude after the session, which he believes bodes well for qualifying. “You can read a lot from his body language, and Lewis always shows his feelings, for better or worse,” Davidson explained. “I was surprised at how positive he was. This makes me think there is more potential than what we saw today.”
Hamilton in Singapore could turn Ferrari’s season around
Davidson highlighted how the seven-time world champion already seems more comfortable with the SF-25 on the Marina Bay street circuit: “If Hamilton feels the car under him is doing the right things, it means he is already sensing the package he has always wanted on this track.”
From this comes the optimism for the rest of the weekend: “Now he just needs luck to be on his side until Sunday.” Since the summer break, Hamilton has shown encouraging signs, reducing the performance gap with Leclerc compared to the early races.
The goal remains to finally reach the podium, a milestone that has so far eluded him with Ferrari but, according to Davidson, may not be far off: “There are many positive aspects. Lewis is an instinctive and intuitive driver: if he is already confident now, it means Ferrari has found a solid base to build the rest of the weekend on.”
