Ollie Bearman could be forced to miss one of the upcoming Formula 1 races after accumulating too many penalty points on his FIA Super Licence. Following the Brazilian Grand Prix, new developments have emerged regarding driver penalties, and one of the main names involved is the young British talent from the Ferrari Driver Academy. Ollie Bearman, who has impressed with strong performances in recent races — finishing fourth and sixth in consecutive Grands Prix — now finds himself once again under pressure after a controversial incident during the Sprint Race at Interlagos.
During the Sprint, the British driver was involved in a collision with Liam Lawson. The stewards judged Ollie Bearman guilty of dangerous driving towards the New Zealander and handed him a time penalty. But that was not the only consequence for the Haas driver. Shortly after, the FIA also deducted one penalty point from his Super Licence. After briefly improving his situation earlier in the season, Ollie Bearman now finds himself back at a total of nine points.
This is a worrying number: according to FIA regulations, if a driver reaches twelve penalty points within a twelve-month period, he receives an automatic one-race ban. This means that Ollie Bearman is only three points away from being forced to sit out a Grand Prix. Even more concerning for him, these points will not expire until the Monaco Grand Prix 2026, which means he must avoid further incidents for a long period if he wants to stay safe from suspension.
How many penalties were handed out in Brazil
Ollie Bearman was not the only driver to receive penalty points during the Brazilian Grand Prix weekend. Between the Sprint and the main race, the stewards were particularly busy, with numerous infractions being penalized. In total, four other drivers also saw points added to their Super Licence. Among the most notable names were Oscar Piastri and Lewis Hamilton.
The Australian received two penalty points for causing a collision at Turn 1, bringing his total to six. Lewis Hamilton’s situation is slightly better, as the seven-time world champion was handed one point for his involvement in a separate incident, taking his current total to three. The Mercedes champion-turned-Ferrari driver will now have to be cautious for the rest of the season.
Yuki Tsunoda is another driver in a precarious position. After receiving two additional penalty points in Brazil, the Japanese racer now stands at seven. He will have to carry those points until the Canadian Grand Prix 2026 — assuming he remains on the grid next season. An interesting case also concerns his teammate Max Verstappen, who, with six penalty points, is now level with Piastri.
