This season has not been easy for the Stevenage-born champion, but many had already considered a potential replacement with Ferrari’s young protégé, Oliver Bearman. Here is Hamilton’s response regarding these rumors, including insights on his contract length.
Heading into the Brazilian Grand Prix, Lewis Hamilton is highly motivated and determined to finally return to the podium—something he has yet to achieve while wearing Ferrari colors. Oliver Bearman demonstrated impressive consistency in Mexico, holding off Mercedes, Red Bull, and McLaren for much of the race. This performance sparked questions following Lewis Hamilton’s sole eighth-place finish. The season of the seven-time champion has not impressed many, including us. We recently discussed it, and market rumors intensified, with Lewis Hamilton at the center. Now, he has given a clear response to the speculation.
Hamilton: “I’m still a bit away from renewal”
Lewis Hamilton’s first season with the Maranello team has not gone as both parties expected, as the English driver has yet to secure a single podium. Despite his struggles, rumors suggest that Ferrari management may not be interested in renewing his contract once it expires. Initially, the agreement was described as “multi-year,” with the assumption that Lewis Hamilton’s contract would end at the close of the 2026 Formula 1 season.
However, during the media day for the São Paulo Grand Prix, the British driver provided revealing details about his deal with the Italian team. He stated, “So, usually, when you sign a contract, discussions start a year in advance. I mean, I have a pretty long contract. So, at the moment, I’m still a bit away from renewal.” According to Motorsport Week, this suggests that the seven-time champion’s contract may run until the end of 2027, with the possibility of early termination or renewal options.
Praising Bearman’s impressive performance
Reflecting on the remarkable result achieved by twenty-year-old Oliver Bearman with Haas two weeks ago in Mexico, where he finished an outstanding fourth, Lewis Hamilton did not hesitate to praise him. He said, “I think he was fantastic. I was so happy for him. Also for his first race, and the progress he has made. A really nice guy. Great approach, very cooperative, and I think he did a phenomenal job. I think they have done excellent work throughout the year. Obviously, they have also developed the car very well. I am really excited to see his future.” – the seven-time Formula 1 world champion concluded.
