Haas driver and Ferrari Driver Academy prodigy Oliver Bearman is rapidly emerging as the leading contender to take over from Lewis Hamilton at Ferrari in 2027, should the seven-time world champion endure another difficult campaign. The young British talent delivered an impressive rookie season in Formula 1, collecting 41 points — a tally that placed him ahead of experienced midfield competitor Esteban Ocon within the Haas garage.
Oliver Bearman has already experienced the pressure and prestige of competing for Ferrari at Grand Prix level. His unexpected call-up at the 2024 Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, where he replaced Carlos Sainz following the Spaniard’s sudden appendicitis diagnosis, further strengthened his resolve to eventually secure a permanent seat with the Scuderia.
In an interview with the Italian media, Oliver Bearman explained that racing for Ferrari remains the defining ambition of his career. He indicated that the opportunity to make his debut in Jeddah wearing Ferrari colours transformed a long-standing dream into a clear and motivating target. Ollie Bearman suggested that the emotional impact of that one-off appearance intensified his desire to compete full-time for the iconic Italian team, reinforcing that winning with Ferrari is what continues to fuel his motivation every day.
The British rookie stressed, however, that his current priority is delivering strong performances with Haas under the upcoming 2026 Formula 1 regulations overhaul. The Ferrari junior noted that establishing consistency next season is essential both for his team and for his own long-term prospects. According to Ollie Bearman, proving himself within the new regulatory era will allow him to capitalise on future opportunities — whether they arise at Haas or potentially at Ferrari — while acknowledging that much of his future remains outside of his direct control.
Ollie Bearman also expressed confidence that, with the experience gained during his debut year, he will be able to demonstrate an even higher level of performance in 2026. He believes he is ready for whatever direction his career might take and intends to solidify that message on track throughout the upcoming season.
Veteran Formula 1 analyst Martin Brundle has already suggested that Ferrari are monitoring Ollie Bearman closely, viewing him as a natural successor when a seat opens. Lewis Hamilton’s current contract with Ferrari runs through 2027, but speculation persists that the optional third year may not be fully guaranteed, creating anticipation around who could partner Charles Leclerc at the Scuderia in the longer term.
