There was a lot of anticipation surrounding the qualifying session for the 2023 Formula One Monaco Grand Prix. Max Verstappen was considered the favorite, but during the weekend and this morning, some potential contenders for pole position emerged: Sergio Perez, Charles Leclerc, and Fernando Alonso were certainly among them. While Charles and Fernando met expectations by keeping the Q3 alive until the last moment, the same cannot be said for Checo, who made a mistake in Q1 and will be forced to start from the back of the grid tomorrow.
Even the Monegasque driver of Ferrari added drama to the weekend. During qualifying, he mistakenly blocked Lando Norris on his fast lap, leading to him being summoned by the stewards to examine the incident before issuing their final judgment. Despite the blame primarily lying with the pit wall, which alerted the driver when Lando was already approaching from behind, the stewards decided to penalize Charles Leclerc with a three-grid position penalty. Therefore, Charles will be forced to start from P6 tomorrow, behind Esteban Ocon, Carlos Sainz and Lewis Hamilton.

Why provisional? This is because the teams’ technicians could still encounter problems with the cars before tomorrow’s race, and if it is deemed necessary to replace a component subject to regulatory constraints, the Federation would be obliged to move the driver of that particular car back a few grid positions.
