It’s now official: Carlos Sainz’s Ferrari will be driven by Arthur Leclerc during FP1 at the Abu Dhabi GP. Following a series of rumors surrounding the two drivers from the Ferrari Driver Academy, the long-awaited official announcement has finally arrived.
“For Charles Leclerc, it will undoubtedly be a special weekend, as he’ll share the garage with his brother.
The announcement confirms the decision: *‘The other driver particularly excited to leave the Yas Marina garage will be Leclerc—not Charles, but his brother Arthur, born in 2001, who will step in for Carlos Sainz during the opening free practice session. This marks the first time in history that two brothers will take to the track in the same session with the same team.’*
Who Will Drive Ferrari in the Post-Season Tests?
An Italian Driver Takes the Wheel During Testing
“Arthur will also be on track Tuesday for post-season testing, sharing one of the two cars with Antonio Fuoco, while Charles will take the other car.” This will be an opportunity for Fuoco to get behind the wheel of a Ferrari.
For Arthur Leclerc, this will mark his official debut during an F1 race weekend. Ferrari’s decision came after the need to replace Oliver Bearman. Initially, the English driver was scheduled to drive Carlos Sainz’s Ferrari in Abu Dhabi.
However, the young Briton, who will race with Haas next season, lost his rookie status. Oliver Bearman competed in three races this season, making him ineligible to participate in the FP1 session reserved for rookie drivers.
