During the qualifying session of the 2023 Formula 1 Dutch Grand Prix, some drivers came under the scrutiny of the stewards for exhibiting behavior considered inappropriate towards their competitors. We’re talking about Lance Stroll and Yuki Tsunoda, both invited to appear in front of the stewards for impeding Lewis Hamilton. Lance was involved in the impeding incident during Q1, while Yuki during Q2.
In addition to them, Ferrari’s driver, Carlos Sainz, also had to appear in front of the Federation officials for pushing Oscar Piastri beyond the track limits during the first qualifying session (Q1).
A fine of 5000 Euros for Scuderia Ferrari
Following consultations with the drivers and team representatives present for discussions, the race stewards rendered the following judgments: Carlos Sainz’s maneuver was deemed “potentially dangerous,” but since the incident occurred just as the Spaniard had exited the pit lane, it was decided to issue him a reprimand (his first of the 2023 Formula One season) and to fine the Ferrari team 5000 Euros for not promptly informing the driver.
Stroll acquitted, Tsunoda penalized
While no wrongdoing was found in Stroll’s impeding incident, the race stewards deemed Tsunoda’s behavior sanctionable. He was given a 3-place grid penalty to be served on the starting grid of the Dutch GP. Yuki, who qualified 14th, will start in the 17th position.
