Disaster for Ferrari in the Chinese GP of F1: it is now official, the FIA disqualifies Charles Leclerc. The Monegasque’s car, which finished the race in fifth place, did not reach the minimum required weight according to the regulations. The insult is added to the damage, after a disappointing Grand Prix for Maranello, which now has to focus everything on Japan.
Another bad piece of news for the Scuderia of the Prancing Horse. After the Sprint Race won by Lewis Hamilton on Saturday, everything went wrong. A race that was not impressive, characterized by a race pace far from podium positions, ended with fifth and sixth place for the two SF-25s. But the insult comes in the post-race checks.
The cars, according to the standard procedure of the International Federation, are weighed at the end of each Grand Prix. After extracting two liters of fuel, they must reach at least 800 kg. If this minimum is not reached, as in the case of George Russell in Belgium in 2024, the penalty is disqualification from the race.
The FIA has decided: Ferrari and Charles Leclerc are disqualified.
At the end of the Chinese Grand Prix, Charles Leclerc’s car was weighed, reaching 800 kg. Subsequently, the damaged front wing was replaced with an intact one, adding an additional 0.2 kg. After removing the two liters of fuel, as per the official procedure, the car was weighed again, reaching just 799 kg.
For this reason, Charles Leclerc was officially disqualified from the race. Ferrari loses its points, in a weekend made even darker by the investigation into Lewis Hamilton’s car. For the same reasons, Pierre Gasly‘s Alpine was also disqualified.
At risk is also the other Ferrari of Lewis Hamilton. Not only Charles Leclerc: Lewis Hamilton is also at risk of disqualification. His car, according to a document published by the FIA, showed excessive wear on the skid. This would confirm the concerns of those who, in Melbourne, spoke of a higher SF-25 to preserve the floor.
