Disqualification also for Lewis Hamilton in China, following that of Charles Leclerc: both Ferrari cars have been disqualified from the Chinese GP for different reasons. In Lewis Hamilton’s case, it was due to floor wear that made the car illegal at the end of the race. For Ferrari, it was a race to completely forget. Now the focus is on Japan, but it’s really tough this way.
This is the FIA statement that disqualifies the seven-time Formula 1 world champion: “The values are below the minimum thickness of 9 mm, as specified in Article 3.5.9 of the Technical Regulations.
During the hearing, the team representative confirmed that the measurement was correct and that all the required procedures were followed correctly. The team also acknowledged that there were no mitigating circumstances and that it was a genuine mistake on their part.
The stewards determine that Article 3.5.9 of the FIA Technical Regulations has been violated, and therefore the standard penalty of disqualification for this infraction must be applied.
Competitors are reminded that they have the right to appeal against certain decisions of the stewards, in accordance with Article 15 of the FIA International Sporting Code and Chapter 4 of the FIA Judicial and Disciplinary Regulations, within the specified deadlines.
The stewards’ decisions are made independently of the FIA and are based solely on the regulations, guidelines, and evidence presented.”
The FIA has also disqualified Charles Leclerc. The Monegasque’s car, which finished the race in fifth place, did not reach the minimum required weight according to the regulations. The insult is added to the damage, after a disappointing Grand Prix for Maranello, which now has to focus everything on Japan.
