Finally, Charles Leclerc broke the curse that loomed over “his” Monaco Grand Prix and took home the victory ahead of Oscar Piastri and his Maranello teammate Carlos Sainz. The emotion for the Monegasque driver was immense right from the checkered flag when, in the team radio, he let out a liberating scream with his race engineer Bryan Bozzi.
Not only that: during the interviews, he immediately referred to his father, who passed away prematurely, and to the dream they had built together since he was a child to one day triumph in the streets of the Principality of Monaco.
Thus, even behind the scenes, Charles Leclerc opened up and recounted one of the key moments of his victory. It all started with a question from teammate Carlos Sainz who, simply, asked him “Did you cry?” Surely the Spaniard knows the Monegasque well and knows exactly how important this victory is for him.
“I started to feel the emotion two laps from the end. My eyes started to fill with tears. I realized I couldn’t see anything anymore. That’s when I told myself F*** CHARLES NOT NOW” the Monegasque recounted amusingly to his teammate.
The emotion seemed endless and even on the podium, Ferrari’s number 16 had his moment of great emotion with Prince Albert, who did not hide his commotion and tears. The Prince, who usually does not participate in the champagne celebrations, took a bottle and started celebrating with the local driver.
In short, it was truly Charles Leclerc’s Sunday in Monaco. The one where he broke the great curse of his career. The victory of the most significant GP in F1 is now his.
