In addition to the new medium-high downforce rear wing adapted for the Montmeló track, the team shows minor updates in the “Cobra” area, while modifications to the floor and diffuser are expected to complete the package anticipated in Spain.
Ferrari brings updates to Barcelona to complete the package that was seen in Imola, with another wave of changes expected for the SF-24 at Silverstone. The team aims for a quick rebound in Spain after the disappointing performance in Montreal, which ended with two retirements and zero points in the world standings.
Regarding the car’s adaptation to the track, the new medium-high downforce rear wing has already been observed. This is a new specification, as the debut version used in Bahrain for the first seven races of the season was followed by the high downforce version used in Monaco. Now, the intermediate solution is introduced, showing a new design for the mobile wing supports that is more efficient, aligning with the advanced solutions of the top competitors.
The DRS-activated flap has a long chord, while the main profile retains a design with a slight spoon shape. The beam wing has been adapted with a large chord lower element and a much flatter upper element in an attempt to reduce drag on the long straight.
While awaiting the expected adjustments to the floor, small modifications have been made in the area where the Halo attaches to the chassis: the vertical fin extending towards the bazooka has grown slightly, and the “Cobra” now has a similar design but is slightly taller, indicating a change in airflow around the cockpit area.
Additionally, it seems there has been a streamlining of the bodywork under the bazooka below the Santander logo to improve the efficiency of the beam wing.
However, don’t expect significant performance leaps at Montmeló, as the entire package of updates might be worth at most a tenth of a second in the wind tunnel. Nonetheless, the modifications could help achieve a more balanced behavior, which is particularly useful on a track where finding a good compromise between the fast sections and the technical third sector is crucial.
