Hamilton still in Ferrari in 2026? The Brit comments on rumors of an immediate retirement
Lewis Hamilton has addressed the rumors regarding a possible immediate retirement, answering the question on everyone’s mind: will the seven-time world champion still be racing for Ferrari in 2026? Here’s what he revealed.
The seven-time champion believes that a break will do him good, but as 2026 approaches, doubts and speculation about his immediate future have increased. Could the difficulties Lewis Hamilton faced in Ferrari push him to consider retirement? The Brit responds to the question head-on.
The 2025 season is now over, and perhaps that is for the best. Only the Pirelli-organized testing for the 2026 tires on Tuesday, December 9, remains. After that, both Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton will finally be able to say goodbye to the problematic SF-25. The seven-time world champion is eager to rest and disconnect, not yet wanting to think about 2026. Regardless of Ferrari’s upcoming project, Sir Lewis will face the Monegasque driver once again. The gap between the two has always been significant. Hamilton hopes that his input will be considered and that the new Ferrari will be more enjoyable to drive and, naturally, faster. But for now, he has commented on the retirement rumors.
Hamilton: “None of them have done what I’ve done”
“What motivates me the most is my love for what I do, my love for racing. I have incredible support from the people around me, from my fans. It’s about always keeping the dream alive. I still have a dream that I hold in my heart, and that’s why I work. I’m not thinking about 2026; it’s not in my plans at the moment. Right now, I’m only thinking about Christmas, spending time with my family, being present, and recovering. To everyone discussing my retirement (including Nico Rosberg, editor’s note), I have nothing to say. None of them have done what I’ve done. So, they’re not even at my level.”
A clear and direct message, also aimed at his former teammate. Since then, the relationship between the two has cooled. Of course, Lewis Hamilton will be in Ferrari next year because there is a contract to honor. However, his performance will need to improve. This year, we have seen how Ollie Bearman has been phenomenal, showing top-team speed and readiness. Post-Hamilton, the focus is certainly on him—assuming, of course, that Charles Leclerc remains in red. That scenario is almost impossible if the 2026 car is not competitive. For now, Lewis dismisses all rumors, hoping that the winter break will restore the champion’s form that has only occasionally shown with the Ferrari jersey.
