Negotiations between Formula 1 and several countries that could be nominated as replacements for the Chinese Grand Prix continue to take place, as the Shanghai event has been officially excluded from the 2023 Formula 1 calendar due to anti-covid policies that would have made organizing the race weekend extremely difficult.
With 23 rounds made official out of a total of 24 scheduled, the greatest attention is currently directed to Portugal, which could replace Shanghai in mid-April with a race at the Portimão track. At the same time, there is also no lack of interest from Turkey with Istanbul, plus other Asian nations that could take part in this particular fight for a place on the 2023 Formula One championship.
On the contrary, there is little certainty about the countries that would not welcome Formula 1 in any way. In addition to the particular case of Australia, which confirmed the presence of Melbourne in 2023 but at the same time clearly denied the possible return of Adelaide , another country with a great tradition in motor racing has made it clear that it is not interested in hosting a Formula 1 event at this time: Germany.
This, at least, is the view of the Hockenheim circuit, which would thus continue its absence from the Formula 1 world championship since 2019, the year in which it hosted the 64th and so far last edition of the German Grand Prix.
In a recent Interview, the organizers of the historic German circuit therefore commented on the possibilities of seeing Hockenheim on the calendar instead of Shanghai: “We can say that at the moment there are no negotiations between us and Formula 1. Also, with our busy calendar of events next year, it would be a great challenge to have Formila 1 at our venue. We are not interested in organizing a spontaneous event, but we are still interested in bringing Formula 1 to the Hockenheimring with a medium-term future perspective.”

In addition, the main alternative to the Black Forest track, namely Nürburgring, is considered an almost entirely impossible event to organize: on April 16, the day in which the Chinese GP would have been held, the German track will host another event, the Nürburgring Endurance Series.
