Post-triple header analysis
The Formula 1 protagonists are currently enjoying a bit of well-deserved rest after a consecutive trio of races that saw teams and drivers engaged in succession at the Spanish, Austrian, and British GPs, with the addition of the Sprint race at the Red Bull Ring. This tour de force significantly altered the balance in the standings. One of the drivers who came out worst from this triple header is Charles Leclerc, who just a month and a half ago celebrated his historic first career victory on the streets of his home, the Principality of Monaco.
Few points, many difficulties
The Ferrari driver has collected a meager 12 championship points in the last three rounds, finishing outside the top 10 in both the Austrian and English races. His only positive placements were fifth place in Barcelona, ahead of his Maranello teammate, and seventh in the Sprint in Austria, achieved after a great start that allowed him to immediately climb several positions. For the rest, Charles Leclerc endured three nightmare weeks filled with internal tensions, mistakes, and wrong strategies.
The ‘client’ overtake
Charles Leclerc’s poor results are underscored by a particularly unflattering statistic for Ferrari: Nico Hulkenberg, the lead driver for the Haas team, which is Ferrari’s main ‘client’ in Formula 1, scored more points than Charles Leclerc in the same three races. The veteran German driver secured two valuable sixth-place finishes in Austria and Great Britain, significantly boosting the American team’s season. Thanks mainly to him, Haas is now just four points behind sixth place in the Constructors’ standings, currently held by Racing Bulls.
For Charles Leclerc and his fans, the hope is for a reversal of fortunes in the last two races before the summer break, scheduled on the circuits of Budapest and Spa. Further debacles would also put the Monegasque’s current third place in the Drivers’ standings at serious risk.
