Difficult period
The past few weeks have been anything but easy on the track for Scuderia Ferrari. The Maranello team, which after the Monaco victory seemed to have become the main challenger to Red Bull, has dramatically fallen back in the grid hierarchy, clearly overtaken by McLaren and Mercedes in terms of performance. In the last four races, only Carlos Sainz has managed to get on the podium once, in Austria, benefiting from the Lando Norris – Max Verstappen collision that took the two main contenders for the win out of the Red Bull Ring race.
Fred Vasseur pushes forward
The recent victory secured by Lewis Hamilton at the Silverstone circuit in front of his home fans with Mercedes, after a two-and-a-half-year drought, has also raised doubts among some insiders that the English champion made a mistake by signing with Ferrari for 2025, thus breaking his historic partnership with the Brackley team.
In an interview published by the Financial Times just hours before the British Grand Prix, it was Ferrari team principal Fred Vasseur who emphasized how Ferrari is slowly returning to prominence in the world of Formula 1, despite the many years since their last title win.
A catalyst for attention
“The signing of Lewis was important because it sent a message in the paddock,” said Fred Vasseur. “He had to make a choice. He asked himself where he would have the best chances of winning the title in 2025, 2026, and 2027, and the answer was Ferrari.” With these comments, the Frenchman confirmed what we had already reported, namely that Lewis Hamilton has a “2+1” contract expiring in 2027.
According to the French manager, Lewis Hamilton’s presence in the team is primarily a potential magnet for engineers and technicians who might prefer to stay in the United Kingdom, where all the other top teams in the sport are based. However, a name like that of the seven-time Formula 1 world champion can generate interest and curiosity around him, attracting talent. From this, in the hopes of the Tifosi, will spark the new renaissance of Ferrari.
