Nico Rosberg believes Lewis Hamilton could take matters into his own hands following Ferrari’s controversial 2026 Mexico City Grand Prix. Speaking to Sky Sports F1, the former Formula 1 world champion raised concerns about the tension between Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc, particularly the apparent lack of a direct conversation between the two Ferrari drivers after the race.
The events in Mexico have left Ferrari facing several unanswered questions, with Nico Rosberg suggesting that Lewis Hamilton remains deeply frustrated by the situation. The former Mercedes driver also addressed the impact of suspension failures on driver confidence, warning that such incidents should never occur in Formula 1.
Nico Rosberg warns Lewis Hamilton could confront Charles Leclerc
Analysing the atmosphere inside the Ferrari garage, Nico Rosberg focused on the absence of any visible attempt by Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc to resolve their differences immediately after the Grand Prix.
“The footage from the Ferrari garage showed Charles, but we didn’t see Lewis approach him to clear the air. At least for now, it seems they have preferred to postpone that conversation. I get the impression that Hamilton is quite irritated and could decide to take matters into his own hands. That would be understandable too,” Nico Rosberg told Sky Sports F1.
His observations add another dimension to the tensions surrounding Ferrari following the Mexico City Grand Prix. The relationship between the two drivers has attracted considerable attention, particularly after Charles Leclerc responded to Lewis Hamilton’s frustration over their Mexico GP clash.
Nico Rosberg’s comments suggest that the situation may require a direct discussion between the Ferrari team-mates, although he did not claim that such a conversation had been ruled out.
Nico Rosberg raises concerns over suspension failures and driver confidence
The 2016 Formula 1 world champion also discussed the consequences of suspension failures, explaining how a serious mechanical problem can affect a driver’s confidence in their car.
“An incident like that is really difficult to come to terms with. When a suspension fails at high speed, confidence in the car is inevitably compromised. These are problems that should never happen,” Nico Rosberg concluded.
His remarks highlight the importance of reliability and the psychological impact that a high-speed mechanical failure can have on a driver. Beyond the immediate consequences of an incident, confidence in the car remains an essential part of competing at the highest level of Formula 1.
For Ferrari, the aftermath of the Mexico City Grand Prix therefore raises questions both about the relationship between Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc and about the wider importance of maintaining driver confidence.
