This weekend Formula One is heading to Canada where the Ferrari SF90 will not present big updates as confirmed by Scuderia Ferrari Team Principal Mattia Binotto, although the Italian side will hope that the layout of the Montreal track will, if not favour the SF90, at least not highlight the defects of Ferrari’s 2019 car.
In Canada, however, Mercedes will equip the W10s of Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas with the second version of the power unit, which means that the championship leaders should be even stronger after already winning the first six races of the 2019 Formula One season.
In Maranello, however, the Italian team is hard at work in order to correct all the problems of the SF90. As reported in today’s edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport, a road map of interventions has been drawn up – all aerodynamic, as the hypothesis of a radical change of the suspension has been discarded. The upgrades will be gradually introduced in the next races, until the summer break in August following the Hungarian Grand Prix scheduled for August 4. In France a new version of the front wing will be introduced, an evolution that will not change the concept of the outwash but will be characterized by a new profile and new flaps.
In Austria, the Maranello team will introduce a new floor, while at the British Grand Prix Ferrari intends to present a new diffuser. New flow diverters in front of the sides are schduled to be used in Germany, according to the report in the Italian media. The development plan has been orchestrated by Mattia Binotto after the negative feedback from the updates in the first races of the 2019 Formula One season. As the team principal and technical director has repeatedly emphasized, there is not one single wrong element that can be identified in the front wing or in the suspensions to hinder the performance of Ferrari’s SF90, but the car as a whole is not well blended.
At the same time the project for next season will begin to take shape, but finding the solution to the problems that emerged on the SF90 is essential also for the 2020 prospects, which means that the next two months which will bring Formula 1 to the summer break will be crucial not only for the outcome of the 2019 championship, but also for the future season.
