Italian-American industrialist and Ferrari chairman John Elkann confirmed that the Italian side moved away from a blame culture to create a team bond heading into the 2022 Formula 1 season. Scuderia Ferrari saw the new rules and regulation for the 2022 championship as the ideal opportunity to get back to the top of the sport after several difficult years, but of course it is nothing new for the Maranello team to set such goals when new rules are introduced.
Several times the past, when these targets were not achieved, the Ferrari management did not exactly prove to be the most supportive or sympathetic of environments when the results were not the ones expected from the start. However, John Elkann explained that this is no longer the case and it seems the new approach has paid off, with Scuderia Ferrari making a significant step forward in the 2022 Formula One campaign, going from fighting for third place against McLaren last season, to Drivers’ and Constructors’ Championship leaders after the 2022 Emilia Romagna Grand Prix, round four of the current F1 campaign, despite the poor results for Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz at the Autodromo Enzo e Dino Ferrari in Imola.
When asked to comment on how Scuderia Ferrari turned things around, Ferrari chairman John Elkann said: “We focused in 2020 on the F1-75 and we entrusted Mattia and the team to work, despite all the pressures of those years, on this year’s cars. We changed also our culture, from one of guilt, one of accountability, one of individuals, to one of team, creating a cohesive environment.” – he explained, in a recent interview for the official Formula 1 website – “But more importantly, high ambition, with high humility. I’m very happy, as all our tifosi to see a competitive Ferrari at the beginning of the season.” – Ferrari chairman John Elkann concluded.
Scuderia Ferrari is now focused on hitting back after the disappointing Imola result as it prepares for the first edition of the Miami Grand Prix.
