After the British Grand Prix at the Silverstone circuit, Scuderia Ferrari officially announced a major change: Italian aerodynamicist Enrico Cardile will leave his role as technical director at Maranello, to be replaced by an as-yet-unknown successor, and move to Aston Martin. The real reason is still unknown, but it seems not to be related to the current performance of the SF-24 single-seater, as the decision has been in the air for a few months. Legendary car designer Adrian Newey also appears in this complicated puzzle: his future is still uncertain, and rumors have him in contact with every team (as is likely), but the main candidates for his signature are considered to be Scuderia Ferrari and Aston Martin. The question is therefore obvious: did the Italian engineer leave because the Briton is coming, or are the two events unrelated?
Speaking on the Motorsport Italia podcast, automotive industry journalist and Formula 1 expert Franco Nugnes presented another scenario: “Adrian Newey has a contract with Red Bull until March next year and there is a clause that prevents him from saying where he will go until September. At the same time, Ferrari wants an answer by the end of July. If we put things together, it seems evident that the path to Maranello for Adrian is very steep and that he is more interested in going to Aston Martin. It seems that Enrico Cardile’s request to go green was made by the Briton. Recently, I read that the Italian was leaving Ferrari to escape Adrian Newey, but there is no basis for this. It seems more that there is no room at Maranello for a former team member of the Mattia Binotto staff, because he is seen that way.” – Motorsport editor in chief Franco Nugnes pointed out.
