Major news has emerged regarding the future of Formula 1 at Monza. During an ACI press conference held at Milan’s Teatro alla Scala, officials confirmed that the Italian Grand Prix will host a Formula 1 Sprint race starting in 2027.
The announcement came during an event dedicated to presenting the cultural and artistic initiatives linked to the 2026 edition of the Italian Grand Prix. Among the speakers was ACI President Geronimo La Russa, who revealed an important agreement that will further enhance the Formula 1 weekend at the iconic Temple of Speed.
Formula 1 Sprint race arrives at Monza
Speaking about Monza’s future, Geronimo La Russa confirmed that Formula 1 and the Automobile Club d’Italia have reached an agreement to bring the Sprint format to the Italian Grand Prix for three consecutive seasons, from 2027 through 2029.
Announcing the news, La Russa said: “Today I can share some news that makes the Italian Grand Prix even more attractive and valuable. Just a few days ago, we finalized an agreement with Formula 1’s leadership. Starting next year, we will host the Sprint race at our Temple of Speed for three consecutive years.
“The Saturday race will make the event even more attractive, and I believe it will allow us to achieve a complete sell-out across all three days, proving that the work being done is moving in the right direction.”
Monza Sprint confirmed until 2029
With this agreement, the Formula 1 Sprint race will officially become part of the Italian Grand Prix weekend until at least the end of the 2029 season. The addition of the Saturday Sprint is expected to attract even more fans from around the world to Monza, further strengthening the event’s popularity and creating an even bigger spectacle at one of Formula 1’s most historic venues.
Italian supporters will also hope that the new Sprint era at Monza brings more memorable Ferrari moments, following Charles Leclerc’s victory for the Scuderia at Silverstone.
The addition of the Sprint format is expected to significantly boost weekend attendance and global interest in the Italian Grand Prix, cementing Monza’s status as a premier destination on the Formula 1 calendar. As the circuit continues its modernization efforts, this three-year deal highlights the growing synergy between Italian motorsport heritage and the modern commercial demands of Formula 1.
