The Monza circuit concession has been extended until 31 December 2044, ensuring that the Automobile Club d’Italia will continue to manage the Autodromo Nazionale Monza. The agreement also lays the foundations for a €12 million investment programme designed to improve the safety, sustainability and infrastructure of Formula 1’s historic “Temple of Speed”.
The Consorzio Villa Reale e Parco di Monza and ACI approved the revised concession, extending its duration and allowing the investments funded by ACI and SIAS to be completed by the end of 2029. The planned work is also considered fundamental to strengthening Monza’s long-term Formula 1 future when negotiations over a further extension of its Grand Prix contract begin.
Monza circuit concession extended until 2044
The decision follows a resolution approved by the Consortium’s Management Board on 19 June, which confirmed that the circuit would remain under ACI’s control. The Italian National Olympic Committee and the FIA recognise ACI as the only organisation capable of ensuring that the Autodromo maintains its national and international prestige.
The agreement also establishes that any activities conducted at the circuit that are not directly connected to motorsport must remain consistent with the programmes intended to enhance the Royal Villa monumental complex and Monza Park.
The longer concession gives ACI sufficient time to amortise the investments required to modernise the venue. Resolving the concession and infrastructure questions had become particularly important as circuit contracts and investment commitments reshape the Formula 1 calendar.
€12m investment plan for safety and infrastructure
The programme is intended to improve safety, sustainability and infrastructure while increasing the value of the circuit and the other facilities located inside Monza Park. The planned projects include:
- Renovation of the Pit Building and service buildings
- Expansion of the Honour Grandstand
- Restoration of the Old Garages
- Improvements to the lighting systems and perimeter fencing
- Modernisation of the water and sewerage networks
The work on the water and sewerage systems is intended to make the circuit more resilient when it hosts major events.
“Monza is strengthening its partnership with ACI, a highly valuable public organisation that helps make the city increasingly attractive to motorsport enthusiasts,” said Paolo Pilotto, Mayor of Monza and President of the Consorzio Villa Reale e Parco di Monza.
Paolo Pilotto stressed that the new agreement enhances both the role of the Autodromo and the importance of the historic park in which the circuit is located.
Geronimo La Russa wants Monza to remain an F1 fixture
ACI President Geronimo La Russa also welcomed the agreement. “It is a result that could not be taken for granted and has now become a reality. By extending the concession until 2044, we are providing greater stability for our growth path so that we can continue to be a global benchmark.”
Geronimo La Russa explained that the investments would deliver “safer infrastructure, more modern facilities and better services for teams, drivers and fans”. He also reiterated ACI’s objective of ensuring that Monza remains “a fixed, unique and irreplaceable part of Formula 1”.
ACI’s environmental work at Monza
Before the agreement was signed, a review was conducted to verify compliance with the obligations contained in the existing concession. The assessment also highlighted the environmental work completed by ACI at the circuit and inside Monza Park.
Since 2020, projects have been carried out to improve the woodland, combat invasive species and restore trees damaged by severe weather in 2023. The number of new trees planted was almost five times higher than the target established in the concession agreement.
A separate agreement has also been signed with the Lombardy Region and the Lambro Valley Park authority to restore the wooded areas surrounding the Autodromo. The project will receive a maximum contribution of more than €2.6 million.
