The power unit update of the hybrid system which Ferrari has introduced in this final part of the 2021 Formula 1 season, waiting to complete the work with the endothermic v6 this winter; the new simulator created in collaboration with Dynisma and entrusted to former Red Bull member Marco Adorno, ready to be tested in preparation for the last races of the current championship in order to make sure that Ferrari will rely on it for 2022; a team that has begun to grow and that will not have big news next season in terms of organization, with Carlos Sainz who has shown all his value by forming together with Charles Leclerc what according to team principal Mattia Binotto “is the best pair of drivers on the starting grid”.
For years, Scuderia Ferrari has focused its sights on 2022 to take advantage of the regulatory revolution, thus hoping to once again be able to fight for wins in Formula 1. The Maranello team’s last Formula 1 victory dates back to September 2019, since Sebastian Vettel won in Singapore in a Ferrari one-two finish, as the German won ahead of teammate Charles Leclerc, who had won the two previous races at Spa – his first career success – and in Monza sending over 90 thousand fans into a frenzy.

The regulatory change based on the ground effect was supposed to take place already in 2021, but the pandemic postponed everything to 2022 to allow the teams to breathe financially, extending the sporting life of the current generation of single-seaters by one season. Interviewed by Italian daily newspaper Tuttosport, former Ferrari President Luca Cordero di Montezemolo expressed some skepticism about Ferrari’s prospects of being competitive again next season:
“From 2014 to 2021 there was no longer a Ferrari fighting for the World Championship. Success is not achieved by chance. This is why I hope that next year there will be a competitive Ferrari. I find it difficult to believe they will have a winning car, but I hope so. When there is a change of regulation, there can be a surprise”. Regarding the championship battle between Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton, Luca di Montezemolo sees the former as favorite, even if Mercedes should never be underestimated, as the Brazilian Grand Prix demonstrated very clearly: “I was impressed by Verstappen’s intelligence and maturity, but I think Hamilton remains superior. If Mercedes doesn’t come up with something in the last few races, Red Bull will come put on top” – the former Ferrari president said.
