Monaco GP delay? Fred Vasseur opens up on worries following Emilia Romagna GP cancellation

Fred Vasseur, the team principal of Scuderia Ferrari, has acknowledged the importance of providing Formula 1 teams with ample time to travel to Monte Carlo for the next round of the 2023 Formula 1 championship and set up for the race following the cancellation of the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix at the 4.909-kilometre Autodromo Enzo e Dino Ferrari, commonly known as Imola.

Due to torrential rain and devastating floods in the region, Formula 1 made the call to cancel the race at the Imola circuit, following the events resulting in tragic consequences with reported deaths and a significant number of people displaced from their homes. As a precautionary measure, access to the paddock was initially restricted due to ongoing weather warnings.

However, restrictions were partially lifted on Thursday, and further access was granted on Friday to allow teams to prepare their equipment for the upcoming Monaco Grand Prix. Concerns arose that the delay in accessing the paddock could potentially impact the race in Monte Carlo, which is scheduled to take place next weekend.

Nonetheless, Frederic Vasseur has now alleviated some of those concerns with his recent comments. It is important to note that teams were never expected to dismantle and transport their gear until after the Sunday race in Imola.

“We were supposed to leave Imola on Sunday evening, which gives us a margin now,” – the Ferrari team principal explained in a recent interview for Franch magazine Auto Hebdo.

Considering the cancellation of the race ahead of the weekend, even if there are delays in the journey from Imola to Monaco, teams should have sufficient time to mobilize and set up without significant cause for worry.
