Ferrari has not won an F1 Drivers’ Championship since Kimi Raikkonen’s triumph in 2007, while the last Constructors’ title was won in 2008, when Kimi Raikkonen and Felipe Massa brought the title to Maranello, while the Brazilian lost the Drivers’ Title to Lewis Hamilton – then at McLaren – by one point.
The last boss of the successful Ferrari team remains Frenchman Jean Todt, who handed over the reins to Italian Stefano Domenicali in 2008, the latter only achieving success that season.
After Stefano Domenicali’s resignation in 2014 and until 2022, Ferrari went through three team principals; Marco Mattiacci, Maurizio Arrivabene and Mattia Binotto who was recently replaced by Frederic Vasseur and is now the first non-Italian to assume this role after Jean Todt in 2008.
Speaking to the media at the 2023 Dakar Rally, Mohammed Ben Sulayem was asked about the changes and diversity in Ferrari team bosses; he replied:
“When Ferrari won, it had a lot of diversity, but it’s not a question of whether the Italians are better than the French or the Germans. It’s about finding the right person,” he explained.
Ferrari failed to win in 2022 despite starting the season in what was arguably the fastest car on the grid, the F1-75, but a series of driver errors, strategy errors and reliability issues meant the Maranello team was not able to mount a title challenge against Red Bull.

“Even if all teams have the same engine and the same team boss, only one can win in the end,” commented Ben Sulayem. “Whether they have the right ingredients, no one knows except Ferrari itself. But winning races and winning championships is nothing new to them. It’s only a matter of time before they win again,” insisted the FIA president.
