Ferrari junior and Haas Formula 1 driver Mick Schumacher admitted that his duel with 2021 F1 world champion Max Verstappen in the British Grand Prix last was something that will be useful for him for the future as he aims to learn for the moment he will get the opportunity to driver a car capable of challenging for race wins.
The Red Bull RB18 of Max Verstappen lost a lot of its potential at the Silverstone circuit after running over some debris earlier in the race, which meant the Red Bull driver was slower by at least 1.5 seconds from that moment and could only focus on damage limitation for the second half of the event. Still, the Dutchman was able to save some important points after finishing in seventh place although he had to defend in the final laps of the British Grand Prix against a charging Mick Schumacher, who was targeting his first points-scoring result in Formula 1.
Max Verstappen and the Ferrari junior did not seem willing to go conservative, as the Red Bull’s drivers defensive moves were described as “on the limit” of acceptable by former Formula 1 driver Jolyon Palmer. The two fought under similar circumstances last season at the Hungaroring and after the recent Silverstine race, Mick Schumacher intends to use what he learnt down the line, when he hopes to be challenging for race wins.
“It was obviously tough and I think that’s something you can expect from Max” – Mick Schumacher said in an interview for Channel 4 when asked about his great duel with Max Verstappen at Silverstone – “But it’s great to have that battle, something that I can learn for the future when it will be about trying to win the World Championship.” – he added.

After 31 race starts in Formula 1, the Ferrari Driver Academy member has finally freed himself of that pressure of taking his first F1 points, thanks to the P8 finish last weekend. Mick Schumacher believes this target could have been achieved sooner if it were not for “difficult races” scuppering that, but with the race executed to a tee in Silverstone, finally the points came.
When asked whether the four points for a P8 in the British Grand Prix does validate his and Haas’ hard work this season, Mick Schumacher explained: “Yeah, for sure. We’ve been grinding for quite some time now and trying to really be on top of each and every every single moment and I think we’ve had some difficult races where we should have scored points. But, finally today, we managed to make a very clean race, clean strategy and the communication was just on point today.” – the Ferrari junior concluded.
