Mick when asked if his target is to get back the records of his father:
“I am in the here and now and am looking forward to being an F1 driver next year. What the future brings, we have to wait and see.”
Mick’s target for his first F1 year: “That I give my best, develop even more as a driver, getting to know the insides of a F1 team and all the procedures. And that I build a close bond with the team, so that we all work in the right direction.”
Do you have less pressure than others coming to F1?
Mick: “I don’t have less pressure but it’s more of how you handle it. I think that because I had so much pressure in the past few years, I can handle it very well. Hopefully that won’t change when I am in F1. The first people that I called when I received the news was my family. They were very happy for me. We are all looking forward to the upcoming year. “After the Sochi weekend, we got the news that things are looking good and that is going in the right direction. But it wasn’t a done deal back then. In the end, I didn’t find out so much earlier than you guys did.”
Mick also said that when the announcement of the FP1 session with Alfa Romeo was decided, back then it was not decided yet what F1 team he wanted to join. Once it was clear that Haas was the right path, they started the talks with Ferrari/Haas.
