Ferrari Driver Academy member Mick Schumacher admitted it was very ‘difficult’ for him to watch the Netflix film about his father Michael Schumacher. The German driver dominated Formula 1 in the mid-1990s and again at the start of the 2000s alogside Scuderia Ferrari, as he racked up a joint-record seven Formula One world titles at the end of his incredible career.
The former Ferrari world champion remains one of the greatest drivers in Formula 1 history: the Netflix documentary, that was released in September, shows Michael Schumacher as a family man and highlights his life away from the circuit during his time in Formula 1.
And his son Mick admits it was emotional for him to watch it:
“The Netflix documentary focused on showing the human side of my father, as well as his successes,” said the Ferrari junior – “I think it is very good. But, at the same time, it is extremely difficult for me to watch it. That shows how much feeling there is in this film and how many emotions it evokes.”
Michael Schumacher took his first Formula 1 world championship with Benetton in 1994 and then went on to win another title the next season. The legendary German driver then moved to Scuderia Ferrari and after a few years of hard work and helping the team improve, he won five consecutive world titles with the Italian side from 2000 to 2004 as he overtook Juan Manuel Fangio to become the most successful driver in history.
Mick has been confirmed to race for Haas in 2022 after his debut championship this year, despite struggling to show his skills in the underperforming Haas car. However, Mick was able to constantly finish ahead of his Haas teammate Nikita Mazepin.

The younger Schumacher could eventually follow in his father’s footsteps by driving for Ferrari in the next seasons, maybe from 2024. Mick Schumacher Jr has agreed to become a reserve driver for Ferrari while continuing to drive for Haas.
“He is a Ferrari driver, we should not forget that” – Ferrari Team Principal Mattia Binotto explained a few weeks ago – “He has been part of our Ferrari driver academy. The reason we have the Ferrari driver academy is to identify the next Ferrari driver for the future. Being part of it, if you are doing well, no doubt you may have opportunities. He’s had already one season in F1, which is important. Mick through the season did well – he improved himself not only in terms of consistency, but as well in terms of speed.” – the Ferrari boss concluded.
