Home » Carlos Sainz on what he images for the 2022 F1 season: “Two extremes”

Carlos Sainz on what he images for the 2022 F1 season: “Two extremes”. Carlos on what he images for the 2022 F1 season.

Scuderia Ferrari deriver Carlos Sainz interview for Spanish daily sports newspaper AS:

Is it strange to see a driver who not so long ago was your teammate, as world champion?
Carlos Sainz: “I don’t think it’s strange because I could see it coming from the first races, Max had those options. I firmly believe that right now there are 7 or 8 world champions on the grid. Whoever gets the car will be the champion. Although what Max has done has been special. The level at which he and Hamilton have competed is spectacular.”

Seven or eight drivers?
Carlos Sainz: “I don‘t know if it is the exact number. But there are a lot of drivers with the potential to be one.”

How do you imagine 2022?
Carlos Sainz: “I imagine two extremes. A team that nails it, all of a sudden, and wins with a serious lead. Or the other extreme, which is a completely equal season, and that’s what I want. This year we saw the drivers making the difference, there were four cars capable of fighting for the World Championship and it’s the drivers who have done the rest.”

Was the distraction of the title fight in 2021 (Red Bull / Mercedes) good for Ferrari?
Carlos Sainz: “I want to think so, but my head tells me that these teams are so good that they are capable of doing both at the same time and they will be at the top for sure.”

How many hours are you going to spend at the factory this winter?
Carlos Sainz: “Similar to 2020. If it had been a continuation year, maybe less. But as it’s a year with a completely new car, I’m going to have to go through the same winter as when I arrived at Ferrari.”
