Who knows how it must be to fulfill the dream of winning the Formula 1 World Championship. And who knows what sensations one must feel to conquer the title by dethroning a dynasty that had dominated for five years. Fernando Alonso’s titles are only two in number, but they weigh like boulders, because they were won against a combination that has made the history of motorsport, that of Michael Schumacher and Scuderia Ferrari.
The Spaniard recalled how the fight against the Ferrari legend and seven-time Formula 1 world champion made him an even better driver: “Michael is a legend of this sport. I learned a lot from him in 2001 until 2004, and then in the following two years I fought side by side with this phenomenon. You have to respect Michael differently than you do any other driver. He is different from others. Even just a handshake was a moment of relief: we were fighting hard on the track, but there was still a human behind that red helmet” – he told British broadcaster Sky Sports – “The Formula 1 world championship is one of those goals you pursue all your life. And once you reach it you can’t be happier and prouder, it seems like after you can’t wish for anything more and nothing better. Instead you are very wrong, because the next race puts you in front of another goal, a different desire.” – former Scuderia Ferrari driver Fernando Alonso concluded.
