Time for a mid-season evaluation of a Scuderia Ferrari team that has doubled the number of points scored after eleven races this year as compared to the 2020, more precisely from 80 last season to 163 ahead of the second part of the championship, which will continue with the Belgian Grand Prix in less than two week. Scuderia Ferrari Team Principal Mattia Binotto admited to being only partially satisfied for reducing the performance gap as compared to the current top of the class, Mercedes and Red Bull.
“Last year we were 1.4 seconds from pole position, this year we are 0.7 seconds” – the Ferrari boss explained – “These tenths that separate us on a single gap to the best can be traced back to different areas: aerodynamics, Power Unit, other systems. We don’t have a big gap in a single area, which would be worse, but we need several small improvements in multiple directions. This iw why the data encourages us.” – the Italian side’s team principal added.
The Maranello team is currently third in the Constructors’ standing, and for Mattia Binotto the first half of the 2021 Formula 1 season deserves at least the sufficiency, but no more:
“So far I give the season a sufficient mark. If I think of the limits we had with developments, with frozen chassis and suspension and only two tokens available to upgrade the car, the vote must be positive. We have the same front nose and suspension from last year, we only worked in the wind tunnel but on the same chassis as last year. Considering the limits, we can say that we worked well. But we are still seven tenths from the best and this does not allow me to give us a vote that goes beyond sufficiency.” – Scuderia Ferrari Team Principal Mattia Binotto concluded.
